Artificial Intelligence in Venture Capital

General

In the past few years, a new breed of investor has been gaining ground in the world of venture capital: the artificial intelligence venture capitalist. These investors are using AI to sniff out promising startups and pour money into them in the hopes of getting in on the next big thing.

So far, AI venture capitalists have had a lot of success. In 2018, AI-based startups raised a record $4.5 billion in funding, more than double the amount raised in 2017. And this trend is only expected to continue, with some estimates saying that AI could eventually account for a quarter of all venture capital invested.

But not everyone is convinced that AI is the best way to pick winners in the startup world. Critics say that AI investors are often too fixated on data and numbers, and that they don’t really understand the businesses they’re investing in.

Time will tell whether AI venture capitalists will be able to keep up their hot streak. But one thing is for sure: they’re changing the way startups get funded, and they’re not going away anytime soon.
